Preseason game four and what it means to Doug Pederson
Posted on August 28, 2018
What preseason game four will tell the Eagles
With the awful showing against the Browns in the rearview mirror, the Eagles are looking ahead to preseason game four. During his press conference today, Doug Pederson shared some information about what this game will mean for the 53-man roster and the 2018 season.
Doug Pederson arrived nine minutes late for his presser and said, “I was meeting with the doctors …” then laughed and said, “Just kidding!”70310:43 AM – Aug 28, 2018Twitter Ads info and privacy103 people are talking about this
Carson Wentz and his status going into the regular season
Obviously, the biggest story going into the season is the starting quarterback. Wentz has been progressing quickly and only has one final hurdle to jump before he is game ready. He was cleared a few weeks back for 11 on 11 drills but still has not been cleared for contact. Pederson said he does not have to make an official decision until 90 minutes before kickoff against the Falcons. However, he said personally he will know who is starting by Friday.
The number one receiver
Another big question mark heading into the season is Alshon Jeffery’s status and timeline for return. According to Coach, Jeffery is “doing well” with his rehab and has progressed up to 75 throws per day. Pederson said they will continue to monitor and see next week where he is before making a decision on him. He avoided the question of how likely it would be for Jeffery to be on the field against Atlanta. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
Because of the injuries, here’s what Pederson hopes to see against the Jets
Pederson mentioned two specific areas of focus during preseason game four. One is the young wide receivers. The other is running back Josh Adams.
He mentioned that the receivers have shown some nice things in practice but he expects to see a little bit more this week not only for the 53-man roster but also to make some practice squad decisions.
Pederson mentioned that due to some injuries we haven’t seen much of Adams in the preseason, but he is another flashy young kid with some talent that they would like to get some more time watching.
#Eagles coach Doug Pederson says he wants to get undrafted RB Josh Adams involved early on Thursday. That’s a guy teams have been monitoring. If the Eagles try to slip him through waivers and onto the practice squad, I’m not sure he makes it.25610:44 AM – Aug 28, 2018Twitter Ads info and privacy83 people are talking about this
Last chance for the players to show why they deserve a spot on the roster
Pederson shared with the media that it’s good to “see[ing] these guys one last time in this environment” because eventually when they get to the 53, “we’re not missing anybody”. He said they have a good sense of who would be taken off waivers or might slip through but ultimately this game is the final showing for some of these younger guys to earn their spot on an NFL roster.
