The Detroit Lions help the Eagles offense

It was looking quiet for the Eagles leading up to the trade deadline. There had been names thrown out but nothing seemed imminent for the reigning Super Bowl champions. Doug Pederson alluded to the fact that if there was a move made, it would be offensive. Well, it looks like the Eagles were targeting just that. They traded a third-round pick to the Detroit Lions in exchange for wide receiver, Golden Tate.

It’s been real DETROIT! I’ll love ya forever. Philly Philly let’s get it!!103K1:44 PM – Oct 30, 2018 · Hazel Park, MITwitter Ads info and privacy26.5K people are talking about this

What will the Eagles get from the Pro Bowl receiver?

Although Tate is 30 years old, he is still putting up big numbers for the Detroit Lions. So far this season, he’s had 44 receptions for 517 yards and three touchdowns. Last year, Tate had his th1,000-yard season (second consecutive) with 92 catches and five touchdowns. The receiver is showing no signs of slowing down.

Caveats on the signing

This is a good trade for the Eagles. They needed another deep threat opposite Alshon Jeffery. However, Tate is in the final year of his contract, which means he is only an eight-game rental. If the Eagles want Carson Wentz to grow as a quarterback, they need to get him more permanent weapons that he can grow with. Will the Eagles consider extended Tate if he shows success with the team? It’s definitely possible considering Jordan Matthews and Mike Wallace are both on one-year deals.

At this point, the only receivers returning under contract next season are Nelson Agholor, Alshon Jeffery, Mack Hollins, and Shelton Gibson.

It’s Showtime in Philly!

The Eagles needed another player to stretch the field, and that is exactly what they got. Tate will draw another defender away from Jeffery making sure to free up Agholor, Ertz, Goedert, Matthews, you name it. He’s got reliable hands and is speedy. Howie Roseman has done it once again. We still have two second-round picks, so there was no need for that third rounder.

Can’t wait to see Showtime Tate on Sunday Night Football to help us down the Dallas Cowboys in primetime!
